TYPES OF LINES, SHADING, TEXTURES AND COLLAGE - Animal in 4 parts

*Extra activity 1: Practice white textures on a bloc page, divide it into 6 equals parts and complete the boxes using white paper with different textures.

*Extra activity 2: read pages 7-13 from the book and do exercises from page 14. Write questions and answers on a white page and give teacher in class during February.

*Presentation with the animals and its names that Hannah has prepared: link.

*MANDATORY ACTIVITY: Choose an animal from the teacher's papers, then scale to the bloc page AND DIVIDE INTO 4 EQUAL PARTS. We will complete it with different types of lines and more things later...

WHITE TEXTURES:

COLLAGE:

We work different techniques, starting from an animal. You have to choose the animal you like and make it as big as you can, scaling and centering it on a bloc page. Divide the sheet into 4 equal parts (use a ruler) and in each one you will work different techniques, filling the entire space: types of lines with markers, shading with pencils, manual textures with white sheets and collage with magazines and newspapers. What we will have at the end:

TECHNICAL DRAWING - Parallel and perpendicular lines on a famous painting

*Read book: pages 49, 50 y 51 (relative positions of straight lines)
*2 tasks: parallel and perpendicular lines on a famous drawing and animal in 4 parts with different techniques.
______________________________________

We are going to work with TECHNICAL DRAWING.
  • MATERIALS:
    • H pencil (harder and lighter pencil in pencil scale).
    • Compass (to draw arcs and circles)
    • Ruler (to measure and draw)
    • Set squares (to draw parallel and perpendicular lines)
    • Eraser (to wipe off)
    • Sharpener (to sharpen pencils)
    • Colours (to take notes)
    • Dark marker or pen (to trace the result, titles and name)

  • VOCABULARY (+ drawings)
    • Straight line
    • Dashed line
    • Curved line
    • Thick / thin line
    • Harder / lighter line
    • Parallel lines
    • Perpendicular lines
    • Point
    • Segment
    • Ray -> Semirrecta
    • Angle
    • Arc
    • Circumference
    • Circle, triangle, square
    • Perpendicular bisector -> Mediatriz
    • Bisector -> Bisectriz
    • Radius
    • Diameter
    • To draw a line X cm long
    • To trace a line -> Repasar la línea
    • To divide into equal parts
    • To measure
    • To join points
    • To center the compass
    • To add up segments/angles
    • To subtract segments/angles

Let's remember how to use the set squares (escuadra y cartabón).

We use them to draw parallel and perpendicular lines:

- Parallel lines: are lines in a plane that are always the same distance apart.

- Perpendicular lines: are lines that intersect at a right (90 degrees) angle.

How do we use the set square?
You have to handle your set square softly and with accuracy without exercising too much pressure on them, only the needed one to avoid movement.

PARALLEL LINES
  1. The 45 set square hypotenuse (longest side) is placed attached to the line to which we want to draw the parallels (GUIDE).
  2. The 60-30 set square hypotenuse is attached to the 45 set square leg.
  3. Fix the 60-30 set square and move the 45 set square upwards or downwards drawing the desired parallel lines along its hypotenuse.
PERPENDICULAR LINES

If we want to draw perpendicular lines to one direction, we will have to follow the first two steps as stated for parallel lines and then the following ones:
  1. Having fixed the 60-30 set square, the 45 set square is turned until the other leg is attached to the hypotenuse of the 60-30 set square.
  2. Draw the perpendicular line along the hypotenuse of the 45 set square.

Let's review how to draw parallel and perpendicular lines using the triangular set squares.

*IF YOU ARE RIGHT HANDED*

*IF YOU ARE LEFT HANDED*

*MANDATORY ACTIVITY 1: Choose a famous drawing to complete it with straight lines (parallel, perpendicular, different distances...). Upload the task working with parallel and perpendicular lines. Take the picture, edit the photo and upload them to the next Padlet.

*Hannah has prepared this presentations with some exmaples of famous paintings that you can choose: link.

What you will have at the end:

*Examples of other year here (parallel and perpendicular lines).

*EXTRA: If you want to have a positive mark make the next task on a bloc page using the set squares and H pencil:
