Now you are going to learn about icons.
1st) Read the information on your book about images, icons and grades of iconicity (pages 31-33).
2nd) Make a visual map with the info from the book.
3rd) Upload your visual map to this Padlet: link.
4th) Read the next information and complete the next tasks:
Look at the example above. You can see a lot of icons. They are very simple, but they comunicate an idea in a perfect way.
Think about the emojis you use on Whatsapp, for example. You can comunicate with your friends just sending them an emoji 😊
You can also use a group of emojis to express something, an idea. Watch the next video from el Rubius, playing with emojis associating to different famous films:
If you see around you, walking down the street, logos, brands, on food/internet... you will find a lot of icons. These next ones are pictograms, a kind of icons. I'm sure you can guess what they represent:
*Here you have more info in Spanish about this, if you want to learn more about icons: link.
Read this next information in Spanish about these grades:
Lool at these next icons. All of them represent different ideas, but they follow the same style. In this case, all of them are made into a circle, have a shadow, the icon has a low iconicity grade, it is a white line or form into a colour...
And this another example also follows the same style: very simple, black lines, only the yellow color in some areas, the name is written... but remember that you have also to be able to comunicate the idea without texts:
Look also at the redesign that Google made with all of their apps:
*There are icon/logo games in the Google Play Store and the App Store you can try:
This is an example for Android where you have to guess the logos: link. You have also this one for IOS: link.
These are 16 activities I made during last year lockdown because of Covid, made as icons:
ACTIVITY:
- You are going to create a list of, at least, 15 different icons, with the word in English and Spanish, all of them related to Visual Arts.
- First of all create the list and the sketch on your notes.
- Show the teacher to check it and upload it. Then make it into a clean way on a bloc page.
- You are going to use a bloc page on a vertical way.
- You are going to use a bloc page on a vertical way.
- Write on the top your name + initial of surname with 3 parallel lines.
- Then divide the bloc page into boxes, at least 15 boxes (3cm high) with H pencil, ruler and set squares.
- Write the title (Visual Arts Vocabulary) using a creative typography (video with cool calligraphy)..
- If you create the icons into circles, remember to use the compass, or the ruler if you are going to create boxes. But you can also make them without circles or boxes.
- Try to be as iconic as you can, draw them very simple, using the figurative and low grade of inonicity.
- Start with the B or HB pencil and then colour them. But be careful, try to follow the same style in all the icons as you learned above. For example, you can use only 2 colours in all of them, and they could be complementary colors or just warm colors (as an idea).
- You can use markers to color them and trace them at the end with a dark pen or marker.
- Upload the activity to the next Padlet (sketch on white page + final on bloc page).
Try to be creative and look for ideas on Google or your Whatsapp emojis to look for inspiration. Create your own icons.
